Search Engine Optimization for Writers. Is that important for, let’s say, a novelist … a poet … or an author of cook books?
Well, YES!
Search Engine Optimization for your Website
I mean, you are a (professional or aspiring) writer, right? Then you probably have a blog, homepage or some sort social media profile. (If you don’t, I strongly suggest you’ll get yourself at least ONE of these.) And of course, you want your online presence to be found – otherwise, what’s the point, right? That is where Search Engine Optimization (SEO) comes in: You want to create or optimize your website/online content in such a way, that it gets a good ranking with Search Engines like Google, Bing, etc.
Why?
Because when people look you and/or your writings up online, it is very likely they use a search engine. But if you don’t appear on the first or second page of the search engine results, but on page 10 or 11 or 20 … then that somewhat diminishes your chances to be found this way, because in general, people scroll through the first pages of their search results, but not through all of them.
Helping the Search Engines to find you
The more I am immersing myself into the intecracies of Search Engine Optimization or “SEO”, the more I see that it’s basically a science in itself. It’s complex. It’s constantly changing. But one needs to start somewhere, so why not by … uhm … introducing yourself your website to the search engine?
